Disabled Veterans: Finding Help Through Grants

The United States armed forces have been in the forefront of protecting the American way of life and the continued freedom we now enjoy. They are the security, the blanket that allows us to sleep soundly at night.

They are most deserving of our thanks and honor. It’s a known fact that life of our heroes is filled with dangers and excitements. We all see it as full of glory. Yet, none of us will fully understand their sacrifice and hardships to keep us safe, the horrors of war and the pains of watching a friend die in your arms. A large number of our soldiers have lost their lives and limbs in war.

Those who have survived are sent home since they are no longer fit to serve their post. This can cause major trauma, depression and some have difficulty functioning normally in society.

Luckily, the government has not forgotten these heroes and neither should we. They have allotted special programs and grants to facilitate, rehabilitate or to simply help these disabled veterans to be self-sufficient.

The housing grant for the veterans is one of such. Housing is a primary problem for the veterans when they have gone home especially for those who are disabled. The major qualifications for this grant are:

  • A valid Social Security Number
  • The individual has served in the armed forces of the United Stated on or after the 16th of September 1940
  • A certified American citizen

Application for this grant is available in the regional office of the Department of Veterans Affairs. And in cases where your application is not approved, you have the option to file for reconsideration. It is wise to do this as soon as you have been notified of the denial. The government is not the only one that provides such grants. Non-profit organizations are also acknowledged by the state.

Aside from housing loans for veterans, there are other grants and programs that are being provided to our war heroes. Job and training for the disabled war veterans are also provided as well as on the job training in various government agencies and private sectors. Support and opportunities are created so that these veterans can be reincorporated to the society and become a self-sufficient and functioning individual.

Outreach programs are well known to support and rehabilitate the disabled veterans. These grants known as formula grants are provided for salaries and costs for the Disabled Veteran’s outreach Program (DVOP) specialist whose main function is to provide the employment needs by the veterans as stipulated in the provisions of 38 U.S.C.4103A.

These are but some of the different grants that are provided to our nation’s heroes. They are able to check what other benefits and grants they are entitled to through the Department of Veterans Affairs. You may want to check out what other benefits and grants that are being presented to the disabled veterans by other organizations. Some grants would have age requirements others would be dependent on the disability incurred.

There would be guidelines and different criteria for availing these grants, but they are there to help out the disabled Veterans. They have taken care of our way of life and freedom, now it's time we take care of them.
